Economy

Of agricultural tradition, the Center-Val-de-Loire region is still a dynamic economic space thanks to its proximity to the Paris region, its industrial activities and the reputation of its local products.

The Center-Val-de-Loire is composed of 6 departments, among the least populated of France. Only the cities of Tours and Orleans exceed 100,000 inhabitants . The other main cities in the region are Chartres, Bourges, Blois and Châteauroux.

After experiencing difficulties related to the financial crisis of 2008, the Center-Val-de-Loire shows real signs of recovery and has an unemployment rate slightly lower than the national average . Its geographical position close to the Paris region is a real asset for the region, which benefits from the benefits of the dynamism of the Paris basin. Important migratory flows are observed between these two spaces. If the tertiary sector is not its strong subject, the region can rely on strong industrial and agricultural activities . In addition, tourism is not at fault with the Loire Valley Châteaux known worldwide, important axis for the radiation of the region.

Center-Val-de-Loire's main activity is the cultivation of wheat . It is also the first cereal region in Europe , thanks to the production harvested in Beauce and Champagne Berrichonne .
With 22 AOCs and having a reputation that goes beyond the borders , the vineyards of the Pays-de-la-Loire are an important part of the regional agri-food business. Chinon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bourgueil, Gamay, Pinot Noir or Chardonnay : all known names that feature prominently in the region's exports.

On a line drawn between Orleans and Chartres, there are many industries specializing in cosmetics . This space is also known as the "Cosmetic Valley" and is home to prestigious companies such as Sisheido in Gien or Dior in Saint-Jean-de-Braye. World-renowned, this competitiveness cluster also includes perfumeries (Hermès, Guerlain) but also pharmaceutical companies, a rubber industry, mechanical, electronic, computer and electrical equipment. Thanks to this activity, the region can benefit from commercial surpluses.
