In terms of population, produced wealth and surface area, the Pays de la Loire region is the fifth largest region in France. It covers the departments of Mayenne, Sarthe, Vendée, Loire-Atlantique and Maine-et-Loire.
The Pays de la Loire region is known as a pôle de compétences (“skills hub”), a place where know-how accumulates in a certain technical field providing a competitive advantage on a global level once the critical mass has been reached.
The economy of the Pays de la Loire region is structured around the six main urban areas: Nantes, Angers, Saint-Nazaire, Le Mans, Laval and La Roche-sur-Yon.
A region open to the world offering state-of-the-art transport links.
By air, railway and sea, the Pays de la Loire region benefits from high-performance equipment and state-of-the-art infrastructure, which represents one of the region’s key strengths. Nantes-Atlantique airport is the leading airport in western France, carrying 2 million passengers a year. The port of Nantes-Saint-Nazaire is the leading European port on the Atlantic coast. The rail network also has nothing to be ashamed of with 21 high-speed TGV trains per day to Paris and nearly 30,000 passengers transported every day on the TER network.
A region at the forefront of ICT
Keen to be at the forefront of ICT (Information and Communication Technology), Pays de la Loire is home to cutting-edge and continuously evolving companies, networks and expertise. The region can be proud of its many high-tech companies, including Nec Computers, Euro Connect and Thomson.
Cooperation that goes beyond borders
The region’s economic dynamism also reflects the links established with other territories in France, Europe and the four corners of the globe. Whether for the economy, research, education, culture or vocational training, the Pays de la Loire region has an international ambition to further develop cooperation. The regional councils of Pays de la Loire, Poitou-Charentes and Brittany have thus decided to create a common interregional space in Brussels to make their voices heard at the European Union level.
Companies in the Pays de la Loire: the jewels in the region’s crown.
With imagination and audacity, the companies of the Pays de la Loire have grown wings and have established themselves in the international market.
